Pregnancy Care

Chiropractic care is an important part of birth preparation for pregnant women. Regular chiropractic adjustments prepare women for safer, easier birthing for both themselves and their babies. A growing number of mothers have incorporated chiropractic adjustments into their prenatal care in an effort for a natural birth and to avoid having a C-section, in addition to decrease discomfort associated with pregnancy.

When a woman becomes pregnant, her neuro-biomechanics change. As her weight increases, her center of gravity shifts outward and her postural compensations respond accordingly. In addition, the ligament laxity increases due to the necessity for birthing, but as a consequence adds to instability in all of her joints, including her spine and pelvis.

The increased ligament laxity is most important in relation to the sacroiliac joint. This joint in the non-pregnant individual is a slightly movable joint (it barely moves). However, in order for the baby to move through the birthing canal for a vaginal birth, the sacrum must nutate and counternutate to make room for baby.  The body releases Relaxin to increase ligament laxity in an effort for the sacrum to move more but a misalignment in the pelvis will not allow sacral movement even in the presence of Relaxin.

Low force adjustments to this area result in proper alignment of the pelvis and allow proper movement of the sacroiliac joint in order for successful vaginal births. In addition, it is suggested the entire spine be checked for proper innervation and to decrease discomfort associated with biomechanical changes due to pregnancy.

Pediatric Care

Chiropractic care is just as important, if not MORE important for babies and toddlers!

The first reason and easier to comprehend, is the mere fact that if they are not aligned as kids, then they will continue to grow in misalignment. Think of a bonsai tree. If a tree starts off crooked, it will continue to grow that way. Same with our kids! We oftentimes see adults that have complaints and problems that clearly started when they were a child.

The first major trauma that any of us experienced was child birth. After birth, we hold babies like they are precious bowls of china. But during the birthing process, they are pushed, yanked, and sometimes vacuumed out! This traumatic experience for the baby, oftentimes causes misalignment in the upper neck area. A simple adjustment, with the force of that which you would test the ripeness of a tomato, can improve sleeping, spitting up, ear infections, and more. Chiropractic for newborns is essential.

We often get asked, how early can a child be adjusted? Our answer.. as soon as they’re born! Dr. Tillie has adjusted an infant as early as 4 hours old.
